The retro sounds of the 70s and 80s abound at Vito - a Phnom Penh club that dedicates itself to the tunes of an era that few of its clientele were born to hear first time round. In Cambodia, that also meant missing the most traumatic period in the country’s modern history - Pol Pot's rule and the wars that preceded and then followed it. The Vito crowd’s a friendly mix of locals, expats, with a smattering of travellers from the very young to those, like me, who recall the retro era before it was retro. The French community seems to embrace Vito with special fervour. The fun of the music sets the festive tone. The party doesn’t get started till late and goes until morning on weekends and busy nights.

Rusty Compass listings are always independent. We list the places we think are worth knowing about. Our Featured Listings allow a small selection of businesses already recommended by us, to pay a fee for a place at the top of our list. That’s it. Featured Listings have no impact on reviews, or on the curation and independence of our lists.
