The Old Compass Cafe and Bar is our favourite little space in Saigon for a glass of wine or a taste of Saigon's happening craft beer scene. But we’re biased. This is the Saigon home of Rusty Compass - this website.
Hidden away in a 1960s apartment block, this is where we head for a drink and a chat with great tunes and an old Saigon vibe.
The Old Compass is down an alley off Pasteur St right in the heart of town next to the Liberty Citypoint Hotel. It takes a little discovering - but it's worth the effort.
There's a concise but well-tested wine selection, a good range of beers, including Pasteur St's Jasmine IPA and other Saigon craft beers from East West and Heart of Darkness breweries. There’s live music most Fridays, and regular talks on everything from architecture to history to art. We've tried to create a unique Saigon destination. Come by and say hi.
On the food front, a nightly set Vietnamese dinner is served. The evening menu also includes cold cuts, cheese board and local bar snacks. And there are vegetarian friendly bites. Happy hour runs between 5 and 7pm each day. Smoking outside only.
You can also ask us about our morning Saigon walking tour - Saigon: Tales of the City. It's designed for travellers with an interest in history, architecture and contemporary life in Saigon.
Disclosure
The Old Compass Cafe is owned by the same people behind this website - so we won't make any claims to objectivity in this case! Check other review sites though and you'll see we're pretty popular!
