Vo Nguyen Giap is the most celebrated modern military figure in Vietnam. He led the defeat of the French at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 ending almost a century of colonial rule and went on to lead campaigns against US-back South Vietnam. He was revered as a leader and a man - second only to Ho Chi Minh. When he died aged 102 in 2013, the nation mourned. I was in Hanoi that weekend 6 years ago and on the 6th anniversary, I've pulled out some footage from that special day. The national outpouring was moving. Hanoi suspended its normal abrasive ways for a few days to contemplate the past and a man who embodied the best values of nation's modern history.
