The day trip to Halong Bay is the most popular day trip from Hanoi - for good reason. The World Heritage listed bay is Vietnam’s most spectacular natural attraction. Thousands of limestone islets soar from a vast emerald bay creating an magical spectacle. In September 2018, a new expressway from Hanoi opened making day trips more convenient. Three ports in different parts of the vast bay offer different experiences - Halong Bay (Hon Gai), Tuan Chau and Haiphong. You need to choose which part of the bay to visit.

Few visitors travel to Vietnam without making the pilgrimage to stunning Halong Bay. While there are plenty of options for those wanting to spend a couple of days cruising, day trips from Hanoi are still the most popular way to see the bay. And in 2018, day trips became faster and easier for Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long and Lan Ha Bay near Haiphong.

Rusty Compass listings are always independent. We list the places we think are worth knowing about. Our Featured Listings allow a small selection of businesses already recommended by us, to pay a fee for a place at the top of our list. That’s it. Featured Listings have no impact on reviews, or on the curation and independence of our lists.
