A couple of weeks ago I took myself on a little random, self-guided street food tour in Hanoi. I basically wandered along a random street and stopped and ate until I was full. You can read about it here.
The food part was great. But the beautiful couple I met at the end were the highlight.
I’ve been coming to this house on Hang Dieu St for years - to explore the old fan workshop, chat with the owner and, by night, to grab a bowl of xoi from Xoi Thuy.
On this occasion, the brother of the fan man and his wife were seated inside watching television.
Such open outpourings of affection after fifty years together, aren’t common anywhere. But I’d say they’re even more unusual in Hanoi - a city that prides itself on concealing raw emotion - at least until it boils over.
These guys made my night. And I still get a kick each time I watch them.
