Big changes coming to Koh Rong Samloen

Koh Rong and Koh Samloen, two stunning islands off Cambodia's southern coast, are about to face a big rise in traveller interest. For the first time, new fast boats make the islands accessible in around 40 minutes from Sihanoukville. At the moment, there are only very basic bungalows for travellers - no air-con, no electricity for most of the day and no internet. That looks set to change in a big way with major developers already buying up prime real estate. These islands are going to need very special care to hold on to their pristine beauty. If tourism development in Sihanoukville is anything to go by, there's little cause for optimism.
