Review
Hanoi’s beer corner area is going upscale - in parts at least.
1900 Le Theatre opened in 2016 and has brought the feel of a large international club - with Hanoian characteristics - to an area of mostly small drinkeries and plastic stools.
It’s off to a flying start and comes with a friendly vibe and DJs serving up contemporary pop dance tunes. During our most recent visit, it was open till 1AM - later than other bars in the area.
The old theatre was a venue for traditional Vietnamese performance in the early twentieth century, at the height of French colonialism.
In the 1990's it became Hanoi Roxy, the capital’s most popular international nightclub. It was a time when popularity could be a curse. Hanoi Roxy burned to the ground and a couple of other popular venues went down in flames around that time as well.
The new owners have spent up big on this first effort in twenty years at turning the space into a large club.
Stop by if you'd like to add some cocktails and clubbing to your beer corner experience. The drinks are of course more expensive here than on the plastic stools outside. Hard to imagine they'll be welcoming shorts and flip-flops for long.
