There is probably no major city in the world that’s better set up for swimmers than Sydney. We're spoiled for beaches, and picturesque pools by the the sea and in the harbour. Some locations are good for families, others, great for open water swimmers. And there’s more good news for Sydney swimmers in 2023. The government has committed to adding new harbour swimming spots west of the iconic Harbour Bridge. Our photo is of Marrinawi Cove - Sydney’s newest harbour swimming spot. This place opened to the public just last week (January 2023). We've been a few times now. It's not Sydney’s best or prettiest harbour swim (it’s small, rocky and not really big enough for laps or exercise). The upside is that it’s right in the centre of town, nearby The Rocks and Barangaroo. You can cool off on a hot day, then catch a Barangaroo sunset or head up to one of Sydney’s oldest pubs in The Rocks - it's all a short walk away. For more head over to our independent travel guide to Sydney at Rusty Compass. There's a guide to The Rocks there too.
Rusty Compass listings are always independent. We list the places we think are worth knowing about. Our Featured Listings allow a small selection of businesses already recommended by us, to pay a fee for a place at the top of our list. That’s it. Featured Listings have no impact on reviews, or on the curation and independence of our lists.
