Travel to the DMZ is of course mainly about the history of the Vietnam War. But the natural landscape provides an attractive backdrop of mountains and picturesque coastline that seems at odds with the area's tortured past.

The day trip from Hue is not the best way to explore the battlefields of the DMZ. Give yourself some real time here if you have an interest in the history. There's not a lot that remains from the war era -  but a good guide and some reading prior to arrival can make a visit to the DMZ very meaningful.
