Review
The rooftop bar thing has reached saturation point in Saigon. They’re everywhere. Most of the recent openings have been flamboyant affairs - big investments in fancy fittings targeting Saigon’s look-at-me-take-selfies set.
Social Club Saigon has gone for a more simple and relaxed feel with couches, high tables and views across the city. And the city’s giving its newest rooftop a warm embrace. Big crowds of pretty locals and expats descend on weekends. It’s busy on weeknights too.
The music never gets in the way of the conversation so, as the name suggests, it’s a little more suited to socialising and conversation than some of the city’s other rooftops.
Drinks are reasonably priced for the space. And rooftop bars have the added attraction that you don’t have to suffocate in the passive smoke of your fellow revellers - as you do in many other bars around town.
Downstairs on the 23rd floor, there’s a lounge bar that looks decidedly mellow at the moment. It’s nice to know it’s there should a storm put a dampener on festivity upstairs.
