Introduction
Tra Vinh has plenty of charm - not least because it doesn't make it in to most travel plans. The town may be a confusing mashup of old and new but it's all on a very manageable scale. And there are some great strips of colonial architecture mixed in with older Khmer temples and Vietnamese and Chinese pagodas.
Apart from distinctively Khmer Ong Met pagoda, Tra Vinh centre feels like a typical small Mekong Delta town. It's in the surrounding lush green countryside that the area's deep Khmer roots are revealed. Cruising around the town and surrounding countryside by bicycle to visit the various sights listed below will be a big part of the pleasure of being here.
