Introduction
Relaxing on the beach will likely keep you pretty contented on Phu Quoc. If you feel the need for some activity, this is a beautiful island and exploring it can be lots of fun. Phu Quoc is developing very quickly though so there's lots of construction and trucks roaring along once deserted roads.
Rent a motorbike or use a local motorcycle taxi to get around. There is talk that local police are cracking down on unlicensed foreigners riding motorbikes on Phu Quoc. Fines are hefty.
Travellers once converged on Bai Sao and Bai Kem beaches for a swim and seafood lunch. Bai Kem is already a construction site and Bai Sao will soon be. These days, you're not likely to find anything more interesting on these beaches than better known Long or Ong Lang beaches.
Car hire is also available.
Boat trips to nearby islands including swimming, snorkelling and diving are also popular.
A prison that once held enemies of the US backed South Vietnamese government has recently reopened as a museum.
