Vietnamese Australian celebrity chef Luke Nguyen has been spending a lot of time back in his homeland for years now. In 2017 he opened his first restaurant in the land of his birth and the source of his culinary inspiration.
The menu at Vietnam House is drawn from Vietnamese tradition but Nguyen doesn’t hesitate to play around with the flavours - in a good way. There’s a focus on letting the quality of the produce speak for itself - a more subtle flavour experience than many other popular eateries.
Vietnam House is an upscale dining experience with a friendly feel. The exterior is classic colonial, the interior is blinged-up deco - there's a faux fireplace at the entrance. Happily, the cuisine is more subtle than the interior design.
This is one of the more expensive Vietnamese dining experiences in town. But it’s surprisingly affordable given the location, the space, the quality of the food - and the Luke Nguyen brand.
Perfect for a dressed up night of Vietnamese cuisine.
Pricing: On the high side for Vietnamese cuisine in Saigon - reasonable for the setting and quality.
Disclosure: Luke Nguyen kindly picked up the tab for our meal. Luke is a friend and I bumped into him unexpectedly on my visit. He joined me for lunch and ran me through what he's doing at Vietnam House. No money changed hands for this recommendation.
